Task 2

how and why is Intertextuality employed in 2 media products and what effect does this have in their intended audience.

This issue is an example  of intertextuality. Vogue has been inspired for this magazine front cover from the image shown in " destroy this mad brute " as the black , muscular man is representing a gorilla, and the woman is acting  as a ' damsel in distress ' figure, being protected by the man. The gorilla is also shown as angry and vicious, screaming with his mouth wide open and eyes shut. LeBron  is copying this behaviour. The intertextuality has been used as Lebron is copying the gorilla, however it has been changed to suit the purpose of the vogue cover, for example, they replaced the gorillas bloody bat with a basketball, to link to his career. Also, instead of the girl character hiding behind the gorilla, she is posing, with a big smile, because she is a " world top model" . She is dressed in a similar colour, and a loose style dress, however they have made it more fashionable and glamorous, due to the genre of vogue magazine. The reference to shape is why they have decided to use these people for the cover because of their good health and figure.

An audience would most likely reject this article rather that negotiate with it, because it could be interpreted as somewhat racist, to black men, and also sexist, as the woman is portrayed as weak.

This is another example of intertextuality , as liam gallagher is doing the same pose in his front cover as David Beckham in his book my world. Liam has copied the pose, showing the intertextuality. The effect on the intended audiences is that they will negotiate with the ideas of the magazine front covers. People may reject the big issue because liam has copied david beckhams pose, however he isnt as good looking. Women will not be interested in the big issue cover.
